Welcome to HJC's Religious School Page

Thank you for considering Huntington Jewish Center (HJC) for your child’s religious education.  Within the walls of this building, magic happens.  Here, we continue to create a haven for our children to learn, question, experience, grow and evolve into young Jewish adults.

Students from Pre-K – Grade 7 attend our school.  Pre-k meets once a month for 90 minutes.

Grades K & 1 meet once a weekend (9:00-12:00) and Grades 2-7 meet once a weekend and on Tuesdays 4:30-6:30 pm.  All of our classes are in person.  Our curriculum has a primary focus of creating strong Jewish identities, a love for the State of Israel, tikkun olam (repairing the world) and Hebrew reading.  By engaging our children with various forms experiential learning we create lasting memories and personal connections both in and out of the classroom.  Our teachers are trained in making ancient Torah stories relevant to contemporary times, holidays are enhanced with art and music, and students learn Hebrew through fun original games.

Building community is at the forefront of HJC’s goals.  Our after-school programs such as: cooking, baking, sports, Krav Maga, arts & crafts, and family workshops, such as:  B’nai Mitzvah workshops, Mitzvah Day, Blessing of the Pets, and holiday celebrations are all geared to support our Judaic and Hebrew curriculums.  Unique to HJC is our weekly Community Time on Sundays.  Here we come together as a school community to learn an Israeli dance, a song, Havdallah, or enjoy a class demonstration.  In addition, we meet a few times during the school year on Saturday (instead of a Sunday) and celebrate Shabbat together with a child friendly service, challah, juice, activity, and of course a delicious kiddish afterwards.  Everyone agrees “Shabbat School” is the best!

We know faith and religious education is a personal decision.  We would like to think we approach the subject with warmth, inclusivity and sensitivity.  We hope you give us the opportunity to feel the connection so many others have felt here at HJC for over a hundred years.
