cOMMITTEE EXPLANATIONS

Adult Education

Seeks to educate, inspire and enrich peoples' lives in knowledge, creative endeavors and community-building programs. We are fortunate that our educators are primarily from within the HJC community - a congregation of learned and giving individuals.

Chesed/Bereavement

Strives to help congregants who may be sick or in need. As congregants face grief, it is our goal to provide support, comfort, and ease by assisting with Shiva/Minyan needs. It is our collective mission to achieve connectedness during difficult times.

Environmentalism

Aspires to offer educational opportunities to learn about local environmental issues, pursue more sustainable practices and building enhancements at Huntington Jewish Center, explore Jewish Philosophy on Environmentalism, and engage with our junior members.

Finance

Responsible for oversight of all income and expenses associated with the overall management of the synagogue.

Inclusion

Committed to identifying and correcting physical barriers and institutional attitudes that are obstacles to potentially marginalized groups’ access to full participation in our congregation.

Israel Engagement

Promoting Israel Education and Engagement for our HJC Community.

JNN

The Jewish Nutritional Network (JNN) has been providing fresh fruit and produce to our neighbors experiencing food insecurity for the last 34years.

Library

A meeting place for books & friends, old and new.

Membership Engagement

We aim to connect with HJC members and families, gauge needs/interests of our congregation, and foster programs that bring our community together.

Men's Club

Unites Jewish men in brotherhood, strengthening bonds through meaningful events, mitzvot, and Torah.

Religious School

Serves in an advisory capacity to the Religious School, actively participating in enhancing the curriculum and programs, creating a warm, caring community among Religious School families.

Ritual

Works closely with our clergy as an advisory group on ritual matters pertaining to Shabbat, holiday, prayer, religious and life cycle services, and encourages participation and spiritual growth for HJC members. The Ritual Committee assists our clergy in assuring that HJC religious observances Conserve our commitment to Conservative Judaism.

Security

We asses needs, harness government grants and oversee their implementation to build and enhance HJC's security infrastructure. Insuring the physical safety of everyone who enters our building is our mandate.

Sisterhood

We are multi generational and provide opportunities to develop leadership skills and form friendships with other Jewish women and promotes the welfare of the congregation by supporting the Religious School, Early Childhood Center and Youth Group, and offering many educational and community service activities.

Social Justice

To create educational opportunities to help raise our congregation’s awareness and understanding
about race, ethnicity, diversity, and inclusion; to facilitate dialogue and reflection; and to encourage action in the pursuit of justice.
